Between 1939 and 1945 over 5,500 people died in the Großschweidnitz state hospital due to malnutrition, neglect and overdoses of medication. They were mentally ill and mentally handicapped, but some were also elderly. During the Nazi regime they were considered ‘inferior’ and ‘unworthy of life’.
Since 2023 a permanent exhibition at the Großschweidnitz memorial has provided information about the Nazi regime murders of the sick, the history and the aftermath. The brochure contains the central exhibition texts, selected illustrations and biographies of the victims, offering interested parties a compact overview of the history of the murders of the sick in Großschweidnitz.
