Executed Persons1933–1945

Introduction

The digital index of names lists the 1,330 people who were executed at Münchner Platz in Dresden during the National Socialist dictatorship. The entries include the following information based on the currently available data:

Surname and first name (or given name); if applicable also the name at birth and academic title. Name variants are noted in square brackets. The original spelling is given for first names and surnames and not the Germanised variants that were adopted by the German authorities.
Date of birth
Date of death
Sentencing court
Date of sentence

The names are linked via biography cards to a special station about the executed under National Socialism in the permanent exhibition CONDEMNED.IMPRISONED.EXECUTED. Gradually all those executed will receive a short biography – analogue and digital.

This and other information were predominantly found by consulting the following sources:

the so-called murder register kept by the Reich Ministry of Justice
a post-war murder register compiled by the Union of Persecutees of the Nazi Regime (Bundesarchiv, Bestand (holding) R 3001)
the 1944 admission and release register for male prisoners of Prison I on George-Bähr-Straße 5 (Sächsische Staatsarchive, Hauptstaatsarchiv Dresden, 10830 Untersuchungshaftanstalt [custody facility], Nr. 20)
the records kept by Father Franz Bänsch, the Catholic prison chaplain (Bistumsarchiv Bautzen, D.V.001-04)
additional information was sought, above all, in German, Czech and Polish archives by studying cemetery registers, registration documents, compensation applications as well as Gestapo and court records or case files
